| Customer Reviews: Waste of money March 2, 2010 Dex Worst photo printer I've ever owned. Color quality is poor. Ink does not last long either for printing photos or sitting idle because the ink dries out. Have had numerous problems with mysterious errors that require power cycling the unit to get it to work again. I would avoid this if you want a plug and play printer that prints reliably and produces crisp results.
Simple, Fast, and so far a Quality Product April 15, 2008 P. A. Rutherford 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I originally wrote this for "HP Photosmart A717 Compacat Photo Printer", which is the same thing, so I'm reposting it.
I've mostly limited my pictures to digital copies for the past few years, but after receiving this as a gift for Christmas I have once again fallen in love with photographs. The A717 can read your photos from all the common storage media or from your computer. It can even connect wirelessly with Bluetooth-enabled devices! It is completely stand-alone in that it does not require a connection with a computer in order to print pictures. It also boasts 4GB of internal storage space for you to save pictures for later printing (Though to be honest, who will need or use that much space on a printer?). My printer has been fairly quiet so far and prints 5x7's in about a minute. It boasts times as low as 39 seconds for 4x6's, but I haven't tried any yet.
My only complaints with this product so far would be the following:
-User Interface: While the user interface has been fairly easy to learn for anyone who just wants to jump in and start printing, small things like cycling through pictures could be improved (I hear this is common on a lot of systems, but it's a real pain to have to cycle through all the pictures from the beginning to get to the end rather than setting them up as one big loop).
-Off-center photographs: This may or may not be my fault, but one or two photographs have not printed with the proper alignment, leaving small white strips on one edge of the photograph.
-Internal Battery: I would have preferred an internal battery over internal storage. If you don't want to haul around the AC Adapter wherever you take it, you'll have to shell out the money for one of these. They may not even be that expensive, but it's still a pain.
That said, I still find this to be an excellent product and would highly recommend it to people looking to print their own photographs.
